Saint Ann's School - Lower School
Project Details
Saint Ann’s School, a private institution in Brooklyn Heights, obtained a building one block from its main facility to house its Lower School, grades 1, 2 and 3, as a complete, independent facility. In addition to 12 large classrooms it has its own gym, library, cafeteria, music and art studios and administrative offices. Click the link above for a detailed description of the construction process.
Spaces were arranged in response to programmatic requirements while working within the existing building configuration. The gym was located on the top floor by rebuilding the roof for optimum ceiling height and column free space. The roof was configured as an outdoor play area.
A central spine leads from the main entry and splays open to a lobby at the rear giving access to the elevator, an open stair down to the cafeteria, both stair towers and a Music Studio/Performance Space. An undulating panel on the west side acts as a soft and playful counterpoint to the metal and glass east wall that opens into the Library.
