The site, set on a crest overlooking the Harlem River, is adjacent to an old monastery complex presently used as a drug treatment facility. It drops in elevation about 10 feet from street to rear. The new five story building is designed to house a prototype residential drug treatment program for people with AIDS and are fully ambulatory. The facility can accommodate 66 residents in single and double rooms, clustered as three room suites each with a common lounge. Toilet and bath facilities are shared. Support facilities include a medical suite, treatment rooms, full cafeteria, laundry, administrative offices, meeting rooms and mechanical spaces. The cellar and fifth floor have direct access to out door terraces.
