Weekend Home - East Hampton, NY

Long time East Hampton residents decided to build a second home for rental income on property they owned not far from the center of this historic vacation town. The Owners purchased elements of an old barn which was used as a basis for the new building. The original chestnut timbers were used as part of the framing for the new structure and the old chestnut planking was used as flooring for the second floor. In keeping with the spirit of a barn structure, the basic shape was kept and economical materials were used throughout. Openings on the front of the building were kept to a minimum with the recessed glassed entry shielded from the cold winter weather by a sliding “barn” door.
