Independence Community Foundation is a Brooklyn based non-profit organization focusing on community development, education, culture and the arts, and economic and workforce development issues in the New York metropolitan area. Their new offices, located in DUMBO, comprise 3,300 square feet of loft space in a converted warehouse. The new design was created to take advantage of the panoramic views of the surrounding neighborhood as well as the availability of abundant natural light. Interior partitions were designed as transparent walls to allow the light and views to filter throughout the space. All walls facing the interior open space are built of clear and colored glass panels and have glass doors. The resulting openness creates a working environment that enhances the relationships between the various staff members. The central space is furnished to enhance the collaborative nature of the Foundation’s work. Decorative industrial type light fixtures were provided add color accents and to complement the raw look of the building and space.
